 Fee Measures

    Implementing Regulations
Compulsory campus-based fees may be established, eliminated, or modified in an election in which a majority (50% + 1) of a minimum voting pool of twenty five percent (25%) of the overall affected student body (according to official third week enrollment figures) votes to approve or to modify the fee. The imposition of a compulsory fee passed by referendum is subject to concurrence of the Chancellor and approval of the President.

Abstentions will not count toward the establishment of minimum voting pool requirements. The establishment of the minimum voting pool will be determined on an individual basis for each measure on the ballot (i.e. the sum of "yes" and "no" votes on each individual measure must equal or exceed the minimum voting pool required).

OPINION POLL 1: Survey on General Education

The UCSC Committee on Educational Policy is taking a good look at UCSC’s general education system. That system is likely to be significantly changed. The people with the most to win or lose in this change are students. The point of this survey is for us to learn about your views on the current general education system. Your answers will be one important piece in our thinking as we consider what to reform.

A. Questions About You

  1. What is your class standing?

  2. What is your college?

  3. In what division is your major (or intended major)? You can select more than one.

  4. Did you enter UCSC as a frosh, or as a transfer student?

B. Survey about general education

  1. If there were one thing you wish had been different about the educational experience of your first year at UCSC, what would it be?

For the following questions, please answer on a scale from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree.”   Some questions may not apply to you because you have not yet taken the course(s) mentioned. In those cases, choose “Does not apply”. Please answer based only on your personal experience with courses, not on things like reputation.

If you transferred to UCSC as a junior or senior, please skip to question 17.

  6. Because of my experience in Writing 2 (C2), my writing improved significantly.

  13. My Writing-Intensive (W) course did a good job teaching me to write in a discipline.

  14. UCSC should have a language requirement beyond what is required for admission.

If you transferred to UCSC as a junior or senior, please skip to question 22.

  16. Compared to other courses (at a similar level), how much effort did you put into your general education courses?
