FEE MEASURES

Compulsory campus-based fees may be established, eliminated, or modified in an election in which a majority (50% + 1) of a minimum voting pool of twenty-five percent (25%) of the overall affected student body officially registered at the time of the election votes to approve or to modify the fee. The imposition of a compulsory fee passed by referendum is subject to concurrence of the Chancellor and approval of the President.

Abstentions will not count toward the establishment of minimum voting pool requirements. The establishment of the minimum voting pool will be determined on an individual basis for each measure on the ballot (i.e. the sum of "yes" and "no" votes on each individual measure must equal or exceed the minimum voting pool required).

MEASURE 6: Campus Student Government Fee Increase
    MEASURE 6 QUESTION
Measure 6 was sponsored for placement on the ballot by the Student Union Assembly (SUA).

Shall the undergraduates of UCSC provide funding for campus-wide events, rallies, conferences, educational forums, stipends, student advocacy and lobbying efforts, and educational programs that will train students in direct action organizing, empowerment, and representation by permanently increasing the existing Campus Student Government Fee of $2.00 per quarter to $6.00 per quarter, beginning Winter 2002?

OPINION POLLS

Opinion polls are non-binding. This opinion poll was placed on the ballot by the Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs.

Student Facilities Improvements

Please indicate your support for the future development of the following new student facilities. These types of student facilities are not state-funded - - they must eventually be voted on by students as part of a referendum. Note: Payment for these types of facilities would only be assessed once the facilities are actually built and are available for student use.

Check all the facilities you think are important to develop on campus in the future:

    • A new Student Union in the Quarry Plaza area (student organization offices, study, recreation and food/retail space).

    • Improve Quarry Plaza by relocating the transit hub across the street to create a more pedestrian friendly area.

    • A new indoor Recreation/Events Center that could be used for a variety of recreation activities and fairs, plus seat up to 3,200 students for concerts and performances.

    • Improvements to the Quarry Amphitheater stage and audience area.

    • A new, lighted Playing/Recreation Field with some built-in seating for sports, festivals and special events such as commencement ceremonies.

    • Two New Pedestrian Bridges to span the canyons creating a more direct access to Quarry Plaza and East Field House facilities for students on the west side of campus.

    • Expand and remodel the Student Health Center to improve medical clinic privacy and service, and expand counseling and health education programs.

If you would like to provide more detailed input about the development of these student facilities, please fill out the on-line Student Life Facilities survey currently posted at the Student Portal in "My Messages".
